Corewell Health is the new name for Beaumont.

Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship, Taylor

Curriculum

Clinical Rotations

In developing our fellow’s rotation schedules we wanted to prepare them for independent practice in as many aspects as possible. Since a physician is likely to have responsibilities that are split between multiple settings in a day, we wanted to prepare our fellow with a schedule based around this type of combined day.

Inpatient Neurotrauma Rehab

Our fellow spends the most of their time managing neurorehabilitation patients at Beaumont Taylor. Focuses here include, daily rounding, supervising residents, transition to independence.

Outpatient Clinic Dearborn

This clinic is attached to Beaumont Dearborn Hospital and is where our fellow has the most outpatient exposure, including their procedures.

Concussion Clinic Trenton

This clinic is operated in tandem with the Trenton Trauma Team. It gives the opportunity for acute management of concussions that have been referred from trauma, the ED, or athletic trainers.

Consultation Service

The fellow on consultation service acts in tandem with the residents who are doing the majority of the consultations on a daily basis. The fellow is expected to monitor the consultation lists at Beaumont Trenton and Beaumont Dearborn. They are expected to identify the patients on the list with the most neurorehabilitation intensity. They then communicate with the residents which patients they will be seeing and managing. This gives the opportunity to independently manage work flow and have experience with managing patients in the acute stages of their injuries.

Research

The fellow is expected to design, carry out, and submit a research project for presentation or publication during their fellowship. Dr. Roskos is the main research faculty member and works closely with the fellow on their project. There are two components to the research process. 1. A dedicated research month mid year to work on data collection, manuscript, etc. 2. Longitudinal component- ½ day per week on all rotations to continue working on all phases of research. Additionally, the fellow is expected to work on a QI project during their year.
