Contact Us / Apply

We accept applications for the program through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications are downloaded beginning December 1. Interviews are conducted in March/April of the year prior to starting date. It is mandatory that the applicant interviews at Beaumont in person. We also participate in the Medical Specialties Matching Program (MSMP)

Application requirements

The following materials must be submitted to ERAS to complete an application

  • medical school transcript
  • a letter from the Dean of the medical school stating the applicant was in good standing with the medical school
  • a minimum of three letters of recommendation
  • USMLE or COMLEX transcript
  • ECFMG status report (if applicable)
  • personal statement
  • CV or summary sheet with basic and contact information

Applications will not be downloaded or reviewed until all of the above information is submitted in full on ERAS. Documents cannot be accepted outside of ERAS.

Immigration/Visa requirements

In order for an international medical graduate (IMG) to hold a Michigan medical license and to train at Beaumont, he/she must qualify for and obtain a visa appropriate to his/her personal circumstances of foreign training and citizenship.  Visas currently accepted at Beaumont are:

OPT visa

  • a one-year student visa.  During the OPT-allowed academic year, a resident holding an OPT visa must obtain an H-1B visa in order to continue his/her education at Beaumont

J-1 visa

  • sponsored by the ECFMG
  • residents are solely responsible for all costs incurred in obtaining a J-1 visa and for keeping it current

H-1B visa

  • sponsored by Beaumont hospitals, depending on nationally-determined availability
  • all attorney fees are paid by Beaumont, with the exception of premium processing
  • in order to qualify for an H-1B visa, USMLE Step III must have been taken and passed

Immigration laws are detailed, exacting, complicated, and ever-changing. For this reason, Beaumont has engaged an immigration law firm to handle all visa activities and questions confronted by the hospital and its residents. All Beaumont-sponsored H-1B visa applications, renewals, and modifications must be handled by Beaumont's consultant attorneys. Residents may engage immigration law attorneys of their choice for all other visa issues, but the hospital reserves the right to require its attorneys to review and approve all outside legal work pertinent to visas.
