The Family Medicine Residency Program at Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe offers an outstanding education in a supportive environment. The extensive resources of Beaumont and its university affiliations assure the availability of expertise in every conceivable field.


Our mission

To train well-rounded, contextually minded Family Medicine physicians in providing full spectrum primary care to all populations, especially those who are vulnerable or under served.

To educate physicians in the discipline of Family Medicine at the highest level of competence by fostering an environment that is both academic and nurturing to all learners, faculty, staff and patients.

To produce physicians who can maintain personal and job satisfaction while advocating for productive systemic innovations in the changing healthcare landscape.

To train compassionate physicians to better serve their patients by understanding the social and community context that affects their patients’ health outcomes and needs.

  • 280-bed hospital, offering medical, surgical, obstetric and critical care services
  • focus on population health and providing care to underserved and vulnerable populations
  • diverse patient population from different socioeconomic backgrounds offering unique clinical experiences

  • 8 residents per year chosen through the NRMP

  • primary teaching site for the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Family Medicine Clerkship

  • faculty with diverse interests including OB, women’s health, HIV management, LGBTQ + care including transgender care, palliative care, psychiatric care, rural medicine, and procedures

  • longitudinal community health curriculum with patient care at Say Clinic in Highland Park, Pope Francis Center in Detroit, and Beaumont Teen Health Center, River Rouge

  • nursing home and geriatric rounds
  • state-of-the-art simulation lab located at Royal Oak
  • integrated behavioral health with behavioral health consultant
  • dually board-certified family medicine and psychiatry faculty and Licensed PhD level psychologists on site
  • national and international rotation electives (Mackinaw Island, Peru)
  • emphasis on evidence-based teaching
  • team-based care: Residents participate in daily huddles with multidisciplinary teams, including MAs, RNs, and office staff prior to each office session
  • excellent practice opportunities within the Beaumont Health System available upon graduation with additional career planning services
  • ability to use electives to create tailored tracks, such as integrative medicine, women’s health, or wound care
