Corewell Health is the new name for Beaumont.
Beaumont is committed to the health and wellness of all residents and fellows. Fellow and department wellness is a high priority of our program. Our fellows are in charge of their clinical schedule each month, which gives them autonomy to balance their personal life with work, as well as their research progress. Through a variety of resources and methods, the program models, teaches and nurtures these important professionalism skills and supports the well-being of our fellows.
One of our main goals is to support and promote the emotional and physical well-being of our fellows.
Additional program aspects are mentor/mentee pairings, vacation allotments, the longitudinal shift schedule, and the activities below:
Journal Club - We have off-site journal club every other month where an activity is paired with reviewing two different recent journal articles. Themes of journal club events include activities such as bowling, bocce ball, axe throwing, Detroit Tigers game, Detroit Yacht Club night, or dinner out at a local restaurant.
Retreats - We have 1-2 retreats a year, usually in late summer or early fall and spring. This is an off-site event where reflection on personal development is paired with group bonding. Past retreats have been at the beach with boating on Lake Huron, at Blakes Cider Mill, at Top Golf, and dinner out.
Wilderness Medicine - The EM residency leads this arm of wellness, with regular department off-site Wilderness Med events and teachings. See this link to learn more: Wilderness Medicine
